Things You’ll Need When Moving Into a New House

There’s truly no better feeling than being handed the keys to your new home. For most people, any anticipation that may have been felt in the lead up to this moment is suddenly replaced with feelings of joy and pride. Purchasing a property is a huge accomplishment and it’s important to take the time to celebrate the fact that you’ve landed your dream property! Upon completion, make sure you take a moment to breathe a deep sigh of relief and look back at what you’ve achieved.

With all the excitement and chaos that often comes with moving home, it can be easy to overlook some of the most important things that you may need. It’s important to think about the practical things you might need for your first couple of days at your new home. If you’re not moving straight into the property, then it’s arguably not as important to ensure that you’ve covered all bases. 

If you will be moving straight in, then you’ll find that there’s a huge amount to consider. Even something as simple as having somewhere to sleep can often be overlooked. If you already have furniture, then this is unlikely to be an issue. However, if you’re a first-time buyer with hardly any furniture or you’ve decided to purchase all new items, it can sometimes be a little tricky to make sure that the timings align. So, it’s important to be prepared and think about alternative options if you know that your new furniture might not arrive in time for moving day.

Food (or at least the number of a decent local takeaway!)

Plates & cutlery

Cleaning products 

Tools (ideal for all those flatpacks you’re going to put together)

Safety comes first and it’s important to ensure that your new home is fully protected. It’s also crucial to make sure that you’re safe too! Accidents can easily occur when diving into a spot of DIY, so make sure you have a full first aid kit on hand.

Check window and door locks 

When moving into a new home, it’s important to take meter readings on the day you arrive to prevent you from being incorrectly charged. It’s also a good idea to take note of the utility companies that the seller was with and ensure that any accounts are closed.
